I work with independent school Boards to strengthen governance practice, clarify roles and responsibilities, and build confidence in the decisions that matter.
My work includes Board development, independent Board evaluations and governance advisory support. Each engagement is tailored to the school’s context rather than built around generic governance scenarios.
I provide practical, tailored governance development for independent school Boards, helping directors strengthen their understanding of their responsibilities and build confidence in the complex issues they govern.
Training can be designed around the particular needs of your Board, including:
Workshops can be delivered individually or combined into a tailored Board development program, online or in person.
A key feature of my approach is that the work is built around the school’s own context, governance documents, priorities and current challenges rather than generic case studies.
Four of my governance workshops – School Governance, Strategic Planning, Managing Risks and Financial Stewardship – are NESA-approved professional development courses in NSW.
Strong Boards periodically examine their own effectiveness.
I conduct independent Board evaluations that provide a structured, evidence-based reflection on the Board’s governance effectiveness, strategic focus and culture.
This is an evaluation of the Board as a governing body, not a performance review of the Principal.
Depending on the organisation, the evaluation may consider Board culture and relationships, strategic focus, decision-making, financial and risk oversight, Board–Principal relationships, meeting effectiveness, governance processes and director capability.
The Board receives clear findings and practical recommendations to support discussion and improvement.
I also work with Boards to review and strengthen the governance structures and documents that support their work.
This can include Board Charters, governance frameworks, strategic plans, delegated authorities, committee terms of reference, Board reporting and assurance frameworks, governance policies and director induction materials.
The objective is not more governance paperwork. It is greater clarity about who is responsible for what, where authority sits and how the Board receives the information and assurance it needs.
I bring 40 years of independent school executive leadership experience, including 25 years as a Principal, together with more than a decade as a Board Director and eight years as a Board Chair.
That experience means I understand governance from both sides of the table: the responsibility of the Board and the reality of leading the school.
If your Board is considering governance development, an independent Board evaluation or support with its governance framework, let’s start with a conversation about what would be most useful.
to book the program for your board or to discuss a tailored strategic planning workshop.
